Trivia
I was just watching a Japanese TV show and learned that there is the world's longest-named lake in Massachusettes: Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg. They had the footage of the sign of the lake, and I did confirm this on
Mind Candy. Crazy. What does it mean anyway?
I went to see my friend James' film "Puzzlehead" at Tribeca Film Festival this afternoon. As he was joking in his introduction, I was among his friends and family who kept wondering whether he was ever going to finish his film. But he finally did it, and did it exceptionally. His premier was a sold-out show, and it was very well-made, stylish and quite thought provoking. He is one of few friends still getting at making films, and I respect and envy that. But I'm also proud of the detour I took and where I ended up. Still didn't have time to paint the bathroom.

happy passover
So far one readership of this blog is comfirmed. That's a good sign.
It was a quiet passover at SOY since we were not kosher for passover. Yesterday Komuro san was hanched over his dinner at the counter when Tal walked in. He noticed the new freezer at the end of the counter. Komuro san said, "She's rich!" "What, she's a witch?" "But I'm a good witch!" "She's a witch from the East." We all laughed. I do have a black cat, and has two blooms in the bathroom I haven't tried riding. To be a witch was every young girls' dream, I thought. We had many popular anime series on TV about girl witches (good witches, of course) when I was growing up in Japan. I won't mind being one.

This was definitely one of the most popular, and was my favorite, Sally the witch. She was also a princess of the witch family.

hacked
An "online slot" has just hacked my blog and left comments on my entries that this online casino was the greatest. I had to go delete them one by one manually. Does this mean that my blog is getting so popular that they think they'd be reaching millions of people? I really don't know who many people actually read this thing. At least a handful of people has left comments more than once. So, I urge you, those of you who's reading this blog, speak up! Tell me you're reading this, and you enjoy it. Then maybe I'll make more effort to write more than one entry a week.
Well, anyway, sometimes it's hard to keep writing. I got excuse of working all day, pretty much all week, and when I come home often I feel like just watching South Park, take a bath, and sleep. It's not like I have nothing to write about. There's always a little insignificant something to write about. Like this morning, I saw a chubby (or fat, rather) latina walking down Delancey swinging her hips, and there were eyes on her back just above the wasteline of her jeans. I swear! The tattooed pair of eyes just above her swaying big hips. I imagined that maybe a whole face is tattooed on her back and she is a 'butt dancer' by profession. Imagine that!

True Friend
A girl asked a guy if he thought she was pretty, He said...no.
She asked him if he would want to be with her forever....
and he said no.
She then asked him if she were to leave would he cry, and
once again he replied with a no.
She had heard enough. As she walked away, tears streaming down
her face the boy grabbed her arm and said....
You're not pretty you're beautiful. I don't want to be with you
forever. I NEED to be with you forever. And I wouldn't cry if you walked
away...I'd die...
SO NOW I WILL SAY:
I like you because of who you are to me....A true friend and if
I don't get this back I'll take the hint. Tonight at midnight your true
love will realize they like you. Something good will happen to you at 1:00-4:00 PM tomorrow. It could be anywhere AOL, yahoo, outside of school, anywhere. Get ready for the biggest shock of your life.
Please send to 15 people in 15 minutes.
Remember:
"A good friend will not come bail you out of jail....
But a true friend will be sitting next to you saying ... WE screwed up!
Proud to be your Friend!
Make sure you read all the way down to the last sentence, and
don't skip ahead.
I've learned...That life is like a roll of toilet paper.
The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.
I've learned....That we should be glad God doesn't give us
everything we ask for.
I've learned....That money doesn't buy class.
I've learned....That it's those small daily happenings that make
life so spectacular.
I've learned...That under everyone's hard shell is someone who
wants to be appreciated and loved.
I've learned....That the Lord didn't do it all in one day. What
makes me think I can?
I've learned....That to ignore the facts does not change the
facts.
I've learned....That when you plan to get even with
someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.
I've learned...That love, not time, heals all wounds.
I've learned...That the easiest way for me to grow as a person
is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.
I've learned....That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted
with a smile.
I've learned....That there's nothing sweeter than sleeping with
your babies and feeling their breath on your cheeks
I've learned...That no one is perfect until you fall in love
with them.
I've learned....That life is tough, but I'm tougher.
I've learned...That opportunities are never lost; someone will
take the ones you miss.
I've learned...That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will
dock elsewhere.
I've learned...That I wish I could have told those I cared about
that I love them one more time before they passed away.
I've learned....That one should keep his words both soft and
tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.
I've learned...That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve
your looks.
I've learned....That I can't choose how I feel, but I can choose
what I do about it.
I've learned....That when your newly born child holds your
little finger in his little fist, that you're hooked for life.
I've learned....That everyone wants to live on top of the
mountain, but all the happiness, and growth happen while you're climbing it.
I've learned....That the less time I have to work, the more
things I get done.
To all of you ... Make sure you read all the way down to the
last sentence. It's National Friendship Week. Show your friends how much you
care. Send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND, even if it means
sending it back to the person who sent it to you. If it comes back to you, then
you'll know you have a circle of friends.

a vision
I had my doubts and maybe that was precisely why I wanted to try it. It was the 50-pound box of chopsticks I wanted to put up on the shelf. But having really no upper body strength, I had my doubts. I thought I may fall trying to put this monster on the top shelf in the kitchen, where we kept it before. I almost had a clear vision of myself falling from the ladder. But carefully I pulled the heavy box, and I was almost there. I had one end of the box on the shelf, and the ladder swayed slightly, and then not the ladder itself, but the whole shelving unit came off the wall in slow motion and collapsed on the floor with shutters of breaking bottles of mirin. Fortunately my kitchen is so small and I didn't have much room to fall myself. I was just stuck against the microwave. So I wasted much of the rest of the wednesday afternoon in cleaning and restoring the shelving.
Sometimes when I run by the Williamsburg bridge with sun behind me in the morning I see rainbow on the ground. This morning was one of these mornings, the road was shining like dark marble and I saw a round ring of rainbow around my head of my shadow as I ran. I don't know why it happens, but I think it's something to do with the sunglasses I wear on the run. It's funny though to see a ring of ray around my shadow like I'm a holy person or something.
This afternoon a writer from another Japanese magazine came and took some pictures of treasure sack, soy rice, and green tea soy smoothie I prepared for her. She enjoyed the food very much. She said I'll be featured in the next issue coming out in a few weeks.
Komuro san had good attendance this week, so did Tamura kun, my new neighbor upstairs. He was so taken by Akiko, and Daisuke and I teased her while closing up.

entertaining activities
I thought it was warm enough and ran out with just a t-shirt this morning. But it was just above 40 degrees and rather chilly. Sunshine felt good against my skin though. I was soon warmed up running around the track on East River. We have a new face at SOY; Nana is my new front help. It was the girls' night with Yuri in the back.
Interesting story from my running team's website: (this is why I enjoy running and other entertaining activities.)

From Reuters:
Fight dementia with sex, crosswords and a run
CANBERRA (Reuters) - Sex, cryptic crosswords and a good run could help ward off dementia and other degenerative conditions by stimulating new brain cells, an Australian researcher said Thursday.
Perry Bartlett, a professor at the University of Queensland's Brain Institute, said mental and physical exercise helped create and nurture new nerve cells in the brain, keeping it functional and warding off diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
"Perhaps one should run a long distance and do the cryptic crossword, " Bartlett told Australian radio.
He said a chemical called prolactin appeared to promote new cells in the brain and could be found in high levels in pregnant women.
"Prolactin levels also go up during sex as well. So one could think of a number of more entertaining activities than running in order to regulate the production of nerve cells," Bartlett said."

gyoza fever
Someone called tonight and wanted 120 pieces of gyoza. 24 orders! I thought it was a prank phone call from David. But it didn't sound like him. The guy was serious. He wanted 120 gyoza for his party tomorrow. I said I need a few days of notice to do that. I'm too honest. I might be able to do it, but I couldn't guarantee. That was what I said, and that was the truth. Yesterday, four gay men sat like 'Queer eye for SOY.' They advised us to dim the lights. Kathy came by today and said, "Now you have a restaurant!" That's what I've been saying. My customers are seeing the transformation with pleasant fascination in the past few weeks. So far, I'm receiving nothing but very positive comments. It's funny how my plan is being executed piece by piece without a complete detailed plan, but everything seems to be falling into its place almost perfectly. I'm quite pleased.

I didn't know Pope was a rock star
I was watching the news of Pope passing, and realized that he was so huge. David said, 'Yea, he was like a rock star when he came to visit.' I really didn't know.
The other day I stopped by Donut Plant on Grand Street and guess who I found: Elvis! It was a square donut with peanut butter graze and banana filling. 'Is that good?' I asked the clerk, which is the stupid question we always ask. Would you expect them to say, no, it stinks? He replied, 'Of course! Elvis rocks!' It was a really good treat.

april is here
I just realized this is the dreadful night where we lose a precious hour of our life. This means that it will be really late after I sleep late tonight, which I prefer to do once a week to catch up on my beauty sleep. This morning Komuro san and Ikko san arrived, not with a huge bottle of sake, but with interesting tools that fascinated me. They did some electric work for me, and eight hours later they powered up SOY with more outlets and new lights. The renovation project is making a nice little progress. It's getting a little closer to how I want my restaurant to look like.
