off to the island

I was a little bit sick of staying home too much the past few weeks, so I decided to take an excursion to the Governor's Island on sunday. I put Taiyo in our SUV- still brand-new jogging stroller and headed to the ferry. He was fast asleep by the time we past the old fish market. We took the short ferry ride filled with bikers and families with strollers on cloudy cool morning. Off the boat, I was immediately in love with this old and forgotten island which reminded me of Cuba. In the middle of quiet old fort, Taiyo woke up and wondered where he was. We explored the little streets, admiring art works here and there, and I jogged all the way to the other end of the island. A kid on a bike pointed at me, "Look, she's running with a stroller!" We picnicked with Jamaican food from vender truck on a lawn with a view of the Statue of Liberty, and Taiyo had a blast crawling all over the grass and taking a ride on a bench swing. We ended up in a park with interactive sculptures where he banged on barrels, turned wheels, flipped panels, and shaked cow bells. It was just a perfect place to be for both of us. He loved the ferry ride back, this time fully awake, and he fell fast asleep again as soon as I put him back on the stroller when we landed. Tomorrow I'm going to attempt his first swimming fun at Hamilton Fish Pool.

House arrest!

Unexpected vacaation began last Monday when Taiyo was diagnosed with chicken pox. Per doctor's order we were confined inside for the intire week; it was like house arrest for the crime we didn't commit. Fortunately it was an easy case for him; he only had mild fever for the first day, and didn't notice the rashes until it began to form scabs. He didn't mind to stay home with me and play all day, but I was going insane. At least it was during the slow summer time for the business, but not being able to leave the house was terribly hard. After the longest week now he is all better and we'll attempt to go back to work tomorrow- now I'm terrified to go back out there. Hopefully no customers will give me a hard time tomorrow.
